This led to several disagreements with the show's star. A close bond developed between the others, while Tina never really became a part of the clique.Īnother factor was actually Tina's desire to portray Ginger as a man-hungry sexpot. Stories abound of the closeness of the other six cast members, laughing together on the set, while Tina sat alone in her dressing room. It is more than likely she did, indeed, expect to have "the starring role" in the show, and ended up as one of the seven castaways (with Bob Denver obviously the show's star in the title role). One has no idea when exactly Tina became disenchanted with her Ginger Grant character and the show Gilligan's Island itself. Ginger was originally written as "a wise-cracking Lucille Ball type,” but when Tina was cast, it was quickly changed to a Marilyn Monroe-type sex goddess. (The role of Ginger had been played by Kit Smythe in the pilot for Gilligan's Island in 1963). So Tina, assuming this was the "starring role" she had been promised, agreed to take on the Ginger role. The role on the show of movie actress Ginger Grant was originally offered to Tina's old acquaintance, Jayne Mansfield, but Jayne said no. She did a few more serious films, but in 1964, she played an ultra-sexy beach bunny in For Those Who Think Young- featuring another actor named Bob Denver.Īccording to Tina, in 1964, the president of CBS promised her "a starring role for TV.” A new series called Gilligan's Island was being cast. She did the Italian epic Garibaldi in 1960 and became a member of the prestigious Actor's Studio, studying with famed acting teacher Lee Strasberg. By now, Tina seemed to have wanted more serious roles, trying to slightly distance herself from her sex symbol image (she turned down the movie Li'l Abner in 1959). This role was a dramatic one, not the usual "girly eye candy" gig for Tina. To further her sex symbol image, Tina did a pictorial layout for Playboy magazine in May of '58.īut Tina also landed her first movie role in 1958 in God's Llittle Acre. Tina's image as a guy magnet was pushed even farther when she and another upcoming starlet named Jayne Mansfield both posed for the 1958 Frederick's of Hollywood catalogue. Hmmmm.sound familiar, Gilligan's Island fans?) Although Tina didn't realize it at the time, her character Apassionata was to be the template for her later role as Ginger Grant. (in the play, the sexy Apassionata is hired to vamp Li'l Abner. It was in Li'l Abner that she played the role of femme fatale Appassionata Von Climax. In this period, she had also appeared in several broadway shows, most notably Li'l Abner. She displayed her versatility in 1957, when she recorded an album It's Time for Tina. She possessed a great natural beauty and charisma, had wonderful comedic timing, and had an amazing amount of sex appeal. By the late Fifties, Tina was quickly becoming a fast-rising young actress/sex symbol. By the age of 17, Tina had began studying acting, singing and dancing. Nobody in any family can be hurt if anything happens to this name because it's my name only,” she says.Īfter high school, Tina attended Miami University in Ohio. During her senior year in high school, she mentioned to her drama teacher that she was "the only girl in class without a middle name.” She chose the name “Louise" and it stuck. The surname name “Louise" was reputedly added by Tina herself. Tina Blacker was born to a Jewish family (she was the only Jewish cast member of Gilligan's Island) on February 11, 1934. Nimur ( talk) 19:04, 7 March 2011 (UTC) An easier way than all of that would to run a program that would make a movie out of whatever is displayed on your monitor, and then run the KMZ file. Alternatively, consider using NASA's free Blue Marble data-set with the free NASA World Wind software - see these instructions to export video from World Wind. Perhaps you want to export a video from Google Earth? If so, you need to follow these instructions from Google, and purchase the "Pro Version" of their software. A general-purpose video player will not be able to meaningfully display the KMZ file. A few other GIS software programs can import and interpret the KMZ file format (but again, they are providing the geographic visualization data on their own). All of the visualization and geographic data is contained in Google Earth, not in the KMZ file. Roughly speaking, the file contains nothing more than a "set of instructions" for Google Earth. KMZ is a compressed XML file in the Keyhole Markup Language. I then emailed myself the file, which turned out to be a kmz file (?) - Is there an easy way to convert that file to one that might be playable on windows media player or in a browser or something (As in, on something that is not Google Earth)? Cheers (and apologies for my dearth of techy knowledge), Darigan ( talk) 16:46, 7 March 2011 (UTC) Not really. Hi, I've just been having a play around with Google Earth, and I've created a video-type file that shows the changes in an area by using the record function (after having read this ). Are you sure that you got the right files? Paul ( Stansifer) 18:44, 7 March 2011 (UTC) Are you using Windows Easy Transfer? - Gadget850 (Ed) talk 19:51, 7 March 2011 (UTC) 92.29.124.221 ( talk) 12:05, 7 March 2011 (UTC) I can't think of a reason for a system-to-system transfer to be converting or renaming files like that. Alternatively Irfanview would tell you if the file was a misnamed image file if you try to open it with Irfanview. jpg and see if it results in an image when you click on it. You could try renaming the ending of one of them from. What program do I need? -Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.47.149.197 ( talk) 02:48, 7 March 2011 (UTC) Are you sure they are actually your jpg files? CSV or Comma-separated values files are something completely different and are not graphics files. The files I was trying to extract were jpeg files. I just bought a belkin ez transfer cable for windows 7. You can click here to learn more about the strategies on how to defeat them. This boss battle has two phases, the first is where you'll fight one of the mantis then upon defeating it, you'll enter phase 2 where you'll now fight the other two. To start the boss battle, walk up to the middle and interact to challenge them. Eventually, you'll come across the switches to unlock the gates and at the end will be a path that you'll drop down into leading to the Mantis Lords. Most of the gates are locked that has a switch that you can use to open it, so you'll want to head northwest and make your way down counterclockwise. Now, you'll find more spikes on the ground and walls alongside Mantis Youth enemies that will follow you around once you are seen. Collect the Geo and head down into the next section below. Before heading down, you'll find a cluster of Geo just across the gate in front of you. Continue heading east and then clockwise to find a switch, hit it to open the gate in front of you as well as a big gate that will open on the lower part of the room. Make sure to cling onto the wall and the dash towards the platform to avoid falling into the pit. Finding the Mantis Lordsįrom where you acquired the Mantis Claw, you'll want to go back down then proceed northeast where you'll find a spiked pit. You can test the ability out by going up one level, and perform a wall jump to your right to reach 2 caches of Geo. Jump up on the platforms, kill the Mantis Youth along the way and jump down into the room with the shelves where you can pick up the Mantis Claw - with the Mantis Claw, you can now cling onto walls to either reach higher ground or to slide down safely. Once they're dead, jump and dash to reach the other end to your left and just continue heading west until you see shelves full of Mantis Claws just above The Knight. After activating the switch, retrace your steps and jump onto the platform that will take you to the 2nd level of the section.Īnother Mantis Warrior will be blocking your way and a Mantis Youth by the large gap, kill it to regain SOUL and to clear your path. You'll encounter more Mantis Youth and Mantis Warrior as you walk down the path. Acquiring the Mantis Clawįrom here, head all the way to the western end until you reach the switch that is on the ceiling. Continue heading up one level and proceed west where you'll find another Mantis Warrior blocking the path leading to the village - kill it and enter the next section. Second head back down and use the mushroom to pogo off it and proceed east, then head up on the platforms until you reach the surface where you'll encounter 1x Mantis Youth alongside 1x Mantis Warrior, kill both the enemies to reach 2 more caches of Geo. First, jump on the platforms and stay to the left where you'll see a Mantis Youth, just pass it, you'll find a cluster of Geo that you can destroy to obtain Geo. Once you're back, we'll go through a few parts of the section before heading into the village. For now, head to the very bottom part of the cavern to find a statue of a warrior and the Dashmaster charm just next to it - obtain it and head back to the previous section. That bug is Bretta, and you'll have to save her later when you acquire the Mantis Claw ability. Just be careful going down and always try to look below you to check if there are only a few platforms for you to jump on to avoid falling into the pool of acid.įrom the bench, head west into the next section where you'll see a shivering bug to your left. Acquiring the Dashmaster Charmįrom here, head down southeast, then southwest, then southeast again which will lead you towards the path to a Bench. Continue going east where you'll now encounter a Mantis Youth hanging like a bat on the ceiling, once you're within its range, it will start to fly and swoop in to attack you, continue going east where another Mantis Warrior is blocking your path. Towrads the end, there is a locked door, but you can drop down and then head clockwise where you'll find an intersection leading down - drop down to enter the next section. You'll first arrive within the boundaries of the village where you'll first encounter a Mantis Warrior, be careful with its attack since it has quite a long reach when it swings its claw. Mantis Village Walkthrough The Boundary of the Village In this assignment you are going to make several specific modifications to turn the web server into a server that implements the URL shortening service. Start by downloading the code for version three of simple web server I showed in lecture. This will cause the user's browser to immediately go to the page that the original URL points to. When the user uses this shortened URL in a browser the application will respond with an HTTP 301 response redirecting the user's browser to the original URL that the shortened URL is based on. The server will respond by sending back a short web page that has the user's shortened URL embedded init. Clicking the submit button on the form sends a request to our server to generate a shortened URL for the user's URL. The page contains a form where the user can type or paste in the URL that they want shortened. To start the process of making a shortened URL, the user will start by visiting a web page. When a user submits a shortened URL to the server the server will respond with a command to the browser redirecting the user to the original URL that the shortened URL is based on. The application will allow users to create shortened URLs and then use those shortened URLs. In this programming assignment we are going to construct a network application that implements a simple URL shortening service. Clicking the link will take your browser briefly to the bitly web server, which will immediately issue a command to your browser to go instead to the original URL for the course web page. Here is an example of a shortened bitly URL that resolves to the course web page for CMSC 480. When users click on the shortened URL the service that provides the short URL automatically redirects the user's browser to the original, longer URL.įor example, offers a popular URL shortening service. A URL shortening service allows users to substitute a much shorter URL for a longer URL and save space in a message. Since tweets have length restrictions, embedding a long URL in a tweet can leave little room for a message. A typical use case for one of these services is embedding a link in a tweet. Bit.ly/THWTAPRIL+ will lead you to the Bitly page where you can see my original presentation URL and see when I created the shortened URL.A URL shortening service is a service that allows users to create short URLs that resolve to a longer URL. Bit.ly/THWTAPRIL will lead you directly to a copy of the slides that I used in my recent Intro to Teaching History With Technology webinar. You can try this trick with a URL that I recently shortened. When you add the “+” the URL will redirect to the Bitly or TinyURL page (respectively) on which the shortened URL is hosted and will show you what the original link was. The trick is to simply add a “+” to the end of any Bitly or TinyURL address. The “+” Trickįortunately, there is an easy way to quickly determine what’s behind a Bitly or TinyURL link without actually clicking on it. Some people use them to hide nefarious links. Unfortunately, not all Bitly and TinyURL users are using those tools for good reasons. I often use Bitly to shorten the links to my Google Slides and Canva slides presentations. Registered users can create shortened URLs that people can actually spell to use in place of unwieldly URLs. Bitly and TinyURL are popular URL shortening tools for good reason. I couldn't test the controller support as mine was started to have issues. Setup your mouse, or controller if it works. You'll know be able to use the keyboard to navigate the menu. While in windowed mode, open the virtual keyboard, and focus it on the Zdoom window. Relaunch zdoom, and it'll ask you to select the available wads. WARNING: May cause reinstall to be necessary! While I didn't get around to testing it, you could try the different sound engines by changing the option at the end of 'snd_mididevice' to the following. As far as I could tell the default fmod didn't option didn't offer any midi playback, but it did work with the mod tracker formats. I'd recommend changing the fullscreen option to 'false' while your editing the file. This post has been edited by NobodyHere: Jun 21 2011, 08:47 PM The second post will be the results, before my only Xbox controller detected by Xdsl was rendered useless. This happened to me a few times, when the mouse was 'grabbed' by Windows apps running in Wine. If for any reason you have to manually power-off the Xbox while in Linux, there's a good chance the system will be rendered non-bootable. The reason this is installed after a backup is that it makes Xdsl unstable. Open your MyDsl extension browser, and load the 'nvidia_.dsl'. Okay, once your loop-back image is backed up you can proceed to install the Nvidia package. Alternatively, you could open a command prompt, and type 'sudo mount /mnt/hda55' without the quotes. You can mount your Xbox's F drive (if available) by opening up Emelfm, navigating to '/mnt', highlighting 'hda55', and choosing mount from the right mouse click menu. While in the Xbox system through Xdsl frugal, or FTP, copy the loopback install compressed image to your Xbox's F:\ drive, or your PC. Either reload the system in 'frugal' mode, or FTP into the Xbox from your PC. Reboot the system, with the 'backup' option checked for safety. Save the file changes.īefore installing the Nvidia package, I'd recommend doing the following. I also loaded the 'Xfree86.dsl', and used the option in the Xdsl menu to run the install script.Īs root I'd suggest editing the '/opt/bootlocal.sh', and appending the line 'modprobe joydev' to it without quotes. After rebooting into the loopback install, I opened up the MyDsl browser, and loaded the 'dsl-dpkg.dsl' enabling apt. I then re-installed Xdsl (through the frugal) as a loopback install. The first step was FTP installing Xdsl to the E:\ drive, and transferring all the above downloads to a directory on my F:\ drive. I left it out.īecause I had seen so many threads mentioning it, I also tested out the Windows PC game 'StarCraft'. I did get the latest Windows Zsnes to load in Wine, but not the Wine version required for everything else. There are several versions of Wine in the DSL repository. Keeping it simple, I also downloaded the following Windows binaries. Although only old versions of Wine were available, I proceeded.Ĭonsidering I have no way of connecting my *box to the net, I had to manually download the following DSL packages, or any other Debian Sarge debs. Not surprisingly, there are a lot of native Linux games, or ports, that won't work due to dependencies on later kernels. Specifically, the 0.7beta 0.02 linked to from HERE. I recently have been doing a bit of testing here and there on the gaming capabilities of Xdsl. |
